Review of Ginger Snaps (2000) by The V — 04 May 2014
The pains of goth girls. Oh how sad! Two sisters form a bond around their morbid curiosity toward death. It is until one sister is bitten by a werewolf is when things go hairy (and I don't mean palm).
Ginger's sexuality is put on display as she begins to go through the changes, but really it's just the moon giving her the cycle of the wolf. Brigitte tries her best in keeping her sister's secret out of the light, but it's difficult to do so when she herself becomes very scared of her own sister.
Ginger Snaps is a delightful take on the werewolf genre and is a perfect movie for goth girls or any girl with a fetish for death. However, I got a bit bored by it's balancing act of high school drama and werewolf metaphor for Ginger's behavior.
She doesn't turn full werewolf until the final act which was nice, but you have to endure the usual set-up. Just okay.
