Review of Ginger Meggs (1982) by Gavin P — 04 Sep 2014
Even as a kids movie this doesn't really work - there's no character development (Ginger is actually a little brat, who you have no reason to feel sorry for, as he's rude, disobedient & gets in fights all the time), a horrible soundtrack (lame, obvious songs written for the film, i.
E. "circus" at the circus, "leaving home" when he runs away) and even worse 80s pop/rock, which doesn't fit at all, especially since it's supposed to be the 1940's. And the parents aren't much better - plenty of domestic abuse insinuated! I know it's trying to be a period piece (at least Bowral looks nice), but it's just some over-used cliches and no where near as funny or charming as the comic strip.
