Review of Ginger & Rosa (2012) by Moya W — 15 Apr 2013
Ginger & Rosa is one of those movies where you think you've got it all under control, you think you know what this movie will be about, you think you know the secret behind it before you even start watching it. But you'll be wrong. If you've seen the trailer before the movie you will feel manipulated and as if someone's tricked you. But in a good way. This movie will take you on an unexpected journey. But that isn't everytjhing that's needed to make a good movie.
This is a movie set in the 1960s London and there's only American actors in it, which means that it was sometimes hard to understand who was supposed to be British and who was supposed to be American. If maybe they just did a rubbish attempt at a British accent or if they weren't supposed to be British.
The portrayal from Elle Fanning and Alice Englert was spectacular, they were amazing as Ginger and Rosa and they definitely put life into this movie.
There were also some puzzle pieces that were difficult to put together and this is one of those movies where you have to read between the lines and it takes a while to understand how it all fits together.
Other than that it was an okay coming of age story, it had a remarkable storyline but it should have been noticed a bit more throughout the movie and it shouldn't have given mixed signals.
