Review of Gilda (1946) by Christopher S — 20 Jun 2009
Memorable but uneven film noir drama from director Charles Vidor. The convoluted plot meanders and the melodramatic ending is not too satisfying, but the psychologically rich characters and elegant style pull it through.
Rita Hayworth exudes a smoldering sexuality that is still effective sixty years later, and Glen Ford's desperate performance is an excellent counterpoint. A solid effort for noir fans, but not quite the classic of its reputation.
