I agree with what the word was back when the film debuted, "The chemistry between the 2 leads is incredible!" People thought that there was something REALLY going on between Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford. They had to publicly make it known that they were just giving their all to their performances and that's it. As an audience member viewing, I could feel the heat, the tension, everything between the two ... I felt it!

The plot ... can't say I felt it there. You could tell there was something between Rita and Glenn, which drove the story along. I said, "Man, there's something big going on here. I can't wait to find out what this is!".

Once I found this out, the story was still good and driving along. But after awhile you could tell Glenn was holding back while Rita was coming on. Which is cool but it got to the point of, "Okay now get on with the story already! Move this plot along!!" So maybe it was established too much of Glenn holding back.

The ending was too mellow and not enough triumph to save the downfall I felt with the story and plot. So imagine those graph charts you see on TV and for comical relief the graph heads down with a big bold arrow. Well that's the plot and the ending doesn't bring it back up to break even, it just mellows out where it ends up below where it plummeted.
