Review of Gigli (2003) by Max M — 21 Jul 2009
After years of jokes and knowing that the critical recpetion of this film matched its horrid box office intake, I had to see it.
I mean, I actually liked "Ishtar.".
I cannot say the same for this horror.
Coming out right before the demise of the infamous "Bennifer" era, this film about a "gangster" (if you could called whgat Affleck tried to get across as that) falling for Lopez' pseudo-lesbian counterpart is just an atrocious mess. Affleck, who has since redeemed himself, is just absolutely horrid in this film and it is beyond me how the director did not see this. Lopez, as a tough girl, is laughable at best. The one redeeming feature of this film is the cliche-ridden, yet well played Brian, played by the now-stufly Justin Bartha. It is a shame his first starring role is of a stereotypical mentally challenged man, but with the role he got, he did make the best of it...leading to great roles in TV's "Teachers" and most recently in 2009's sleeper hit, "The Hangover.".
No matter how curious you may be, take it from me and everyone else who has seen this film and has taste...don't waste your time...and moreso, don't waste any money!
