Review of Gigli (2003) by Paul B — 21 Dec 2010
I honestly had no idea what this movie was about other than Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck starring in it and it being among the most panned movies ever. And, wow, is it bad! The first thing that jumps out at me is how over-the-top and horrible the score is for this film.
It's like they want you to take everything as if it's the most amazing thing you'll ever see. They probably should have toned it down a little. Plus, this movie has no idea what genre it wants to fit into: romantic comedy, crime thriller, "Rain Man" ripoff.
It's terrible. Plus, the dialogue for Justin Bartha's retard character was ridiculous. Actually, the dialogue for the whole movie's terrible, but his nonsequitirs were among the worst. And, finally, Christopher Walken and Al Pacino both have cameos in this and they are some of the hammiest, most outlandishly over-the-top cameos I've ever seen.
Pacino basically screams all of his lines and Walken starts ad-libbing crazy crap that has nothing to do with the film, even working in a strange accent for a line or two. This movie sucks. (Oh, I forgot to mention how at the end of the credits you're "treated" to an acapella performance of "Baby Got Back" by Justin Bartha's retard character.
Wow! Awful!).
