Review of Gigli (2003) by Dc W — 11 Dec 2012
It's hard what to make of Gigli. What's left of its reported dramatic restructuring there isn't a genre to define. Gigli wants to be funny and dramatic, playing Larry Gigli (Affleck) and lesbian Ricki's (Lopez) developing "relationship" for laughs but after basically zero demonstration of an actual tangible chemistry to glean drama from (my guess is that the audience is supposed to deduce "bonding" through their kidnapping of the mentally challenged Brian, the brother of a prosecutor to save a mob boss from going to prison), Gigli tries to amp it up in its final minutes.
Then there's some off-putting blood-letting and poorly delivered lines of dialogue ("gobble, gobble" the most infamous example) on top of the confused mess the rest of the film is, and it's not fitting nor funny.
Gigli is best left alone.
