Review of Gifted (2017) by Robby K — 18 Aug 2017
Though it's littered with genre clichés and has an extremely bland, underwhelming villain "Gifted" has enough heart and enough good moments to capitalize on its talented cast. Chris Evans and the young McKenna Grace work well together, but it's the supporting cast that brings it all together and adds an extra layer that is usually lacking in similar movies.
Marc Webb continues to struggle in his post "(500) Days of Summer" career. He does just enough to get by, but he doesn't reach for anything more and because of that the movie is sure to be quickly forgotten.
There are some really good moments in the film, and though it's familiar and it's flawed it has a likable cast and overall charm that separates itself enough to ignore many of its issues.
