Review of Gifted (2017) by Blaise Is C — 26 Apr 2017
Every once in a while you stumble across a movie that will genuinely pluck the old heart strings without being heavy handed in doing so, and Gifted is just such a movie. The movie is a about a man taking care of his prodigy niece, and even though it is uncle taking care of niece, make no mistake it is a father/daughter picture.
Any dads out there will know, there is nothing like the relationship between a father and daughter. Gifted isn't going to win any awards, and isn't the greatest drama of the year. What it is to me is a real picture dealing with real issues.
The movie touches on depression, bullying, parenting, and most of all how important a dad is to raising a girl. This movie has one of the sweetest scenes I have seen in a movie in quite some time, and did nothing short of bring just a giant smile to my face.
There is also one of the toughest scenes in a film I have seen in a while outside of last years Manchester by the Sea. Treat yourself to Gifted, especially if you have a daughter or a special relationship with a niece, you will be glad you did.
