Review of Giant (1956) by Andrew R — 19 Oct 2007
I was surprised by how much I liked this epic Hollywood melodrama. Thanks largely to George Stevens' superb direction and the stellar performances of the three leads (Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean) and a fine supporting cast (with Chill Wills and Dennis Hopper as stand-outs).
Sure, it's a bit long but the grandeur and the epic and the superb cinematography helps keeps your attention throughout most of it. I like it better than "Gone with the Wind".
