A long drama which is slow moving at times. But still average good. Rock Hudson owns a hugh ranch in Texas and he visit a farm to buy a horse. There he met Elizabeth Taylor. Immediately they hit it off and get married.

She follow him back. Mecedes McCambridge is Rock's sister, helping to run the ranch. Rock didn't like Elizabeth to treat the mexican helpers well and with courteous. Mercedes seem threaten of her place been take over by her.

James Dean is a cowboy working for Rock but he has issues. While outdoor showing Elizabeth their herding, he ask James to bring her home. They pass by a village and she alight and help tend to a sick baby who is mexican.

Mercedes purposely mistreat a horse that Elizabeth like and ride it wild. Later she die from the fall. From her will, she state to give James a small piece of land. Rock wanted to pay him $1200 for it but he decline.

While the men are talking, Elizabeth joins in but wasn't welcome. Rock went back to fight with her but eventually her calm words and demure character sooth him. She told him she's pregnant. Rock always wanted a son to take over the ranch just the way he did, his father did, his grandpa did.

Next moment 2 babies born, a boy a girl. Elizabeth stop by at James little ranch. When leaving she step onto the mud, later oil oozes out. Years pass, the kids grown up and they have another daughter.

Rock give his son a horse as present and force him to ride it but he cries. He is sad and angry. Elizabeth bring the kids back her home since she hasn't visit her parents. Also using this as a calm period.

Rock miss them all and went back to find her. James found oil beneath his ranch and strike it big time. Became tycoon. The children all grown up to teenager. The son (Dennis Hopper) want to be doctor.

The 1st daughter (Carroll Baker) seem to like the old James. Rock is angry Dennis not interested to take over his ranch. The youngest daughter (Fran Bennett) goes to a local school just because she like a guy.

Dennis marries a mexican doctor. Years pass, Rock and Elizabeth became grand parents. James opens a hotel and airport. Invited everyone for the ceremony. James and Carroll had dinner and it seem like a proposal.

Dennis's wife is been badly treated because of her race and its the instruction of James to disregard mexican. Dennis is so angry he went to confront James when he made the grand entry. Dennis punch by James.

Rock couldn't take it and want to fight him in the wine cellar. But no punches were thrown as James got so weak and drunk. Rock smashes the cellar. James return to his seat and pass out when he is about to give speech.

Carroll is angry the way the family treated James. She went to see him and is sad and disappointed of him. Rock, Elizabeth, Carroll and the mexican daughter went to a diner. The boss didn't want to serve a mexican family.

Rock interfere and fight with him but lose. The boss show him a sign that say he has the right to refuse service to anyone. Rock and Elizabeth now just spend time looking after their grand kids. Happily together still.
