Review of Giallo? (2009) by Jesse P — 16 Sep 2010
Look I didn?t find it as good as Dario?s other movies because I just felt it was the story that ruined this movie because he was just using idea from his past movies to make this.
In Torino, Celine, an American model, is abducted by a taxi driver while en route home to meet her sister Linda, visiting at her apartment. The next morning, Linda reports that Celine is missing - the sergeant in charge directs her to F.B.I. agent Inspector Enzo Avolfi. He's from the Special New York City Department investigating a serial-killer that kidnaps foreigners to destroy their beauty. When a Japanese woman is found at nearby a fountain, Enzo and Linda find that the girl is calling the abductor's skin is "Yellow" in color and Linda concludes that the guy might have jaundice. They go to the Policlinic in Torino to find the killer. One of the main things is this movie get?s really boring.
Okay so the story really isn?t that great or that bad it?s interesting but I just didn?t find it as good as Dario other works. Phenomena he first combined Supernaturally with Giallo to make an amazing horror movie. The Bird with the crystal plumage was just brilliant in story. Deep Red is just a masterpiece of brilliant story telling and twists. So the acting is mixed Adrian Brody is great (This is one of his best performance next too the Pianist) but it?s just the rest of the cast members they just weren?t that good. The special effects well you now how Dario is with all the blood and gore that was a major praise along with the effects of course. The music was good but I think this is the same theme that was in Opera but still it?s a praise.
Here are some facts I found.
Vincent Gallo was initially set to play the role of Yellow but dropped out after his ex-fiancée Asia Argento was cast in the lead role. Ironically enough, she later quit the project because she was pregnant and was replaced by Emmanuelle Seigner.
Adrien Brody replaced Ray Liotta.
This is Dario Argento's first theatrical directorial feature which isn't based on an original script by himself. However, the script was written specifically for him.
Dario Argento heavily disliked the producers cut and that?s why he is no longer working on the film he has decide to write a new one.
Overall it was okay but my final verdict is up to you but I guess It's kind of recommended.
