Review of Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009) by Philip Z — 11 Oct 2013
I just have one question for director Mark Waters: What the hell's with all the brown? I swear every shot in this film is bathed in some shade of brown. Maybe he was trying to tell us that this movie was total $#!+.
Well, guess what, Mark, I could tell it was crap without it actually looking like it. Seriously, the film is so brown that I couldn't tell what I was even looking at most of the time. On the subject of actors, every performer in this film is better than the material they've been given, and they know it.
McConaughey, Stone, Garner, and Douglas are among the casualties. Hell, even the director, Mark Waters deserves better than this schlocky retelling of A Christmas Carol; I really liked his Freaky Friday remake and Mean Girls.
Yes, both of those were Lindsay Lohan vehicles but they were somehow smart, insightful teen movies. That's more than I can say about this film.
