Review of Ghostbusters (2016) by Ph C — 29 Mar 2018
This had a huge potential to be a canon sequel and restart an awesome franchise. Having four women follow the path of the original ghostbusters was a great idea, Bill and Dan could have passed the torch on, but this movie like many recent others hides behind a so called empowering of female characters to get sales, and then it sets them up to fail.
Sadly the director turned the movie into a bland senseless thing that goes nowhere for two hours. Kate McKinnon does a great job, and so does everyone else in the cast, with the exception of Melissa McCarthy who I find poor at acting and comedy.
But the plot and its execution ruin everything for everyone. Paul Feig managed to get a commercial success out of some cheap movies in the past, and that's why he got to do this project, not because he's good at directing, or because he cares about female characters, or the ghostbusters fanchise.
This whole thing has been depressing, I hope a new reboot can be created in the future that isn't as poor as this.
