Review of Ghostbusters (1984) by Andy G — 28 Nov 2013
Ghostbusters is often very funny. Much of this can be credited to the writers. The rest can be credited to Bill Murray, who is deadpan hilarious in his role as an undeserving scientist who... well, busts ghosts.
The movie's kind of stupid, but it's funny so it can be forgiven to an extent. The only real shames are how quickly it progresses, and then ends and how Sigourney Weaver, in her role as a sexed up "keymaster gargoyle monster bitch," never has an opportunity to really play a human, but only a caricature of one. I look at movies like Alien and Avatar and I see a strong, smart woman, and then here she is, selling her body on screen. It is perhaps the biggest disappointment of the movie.
Had the movie made more of Sigourney's character, and had they progressed the plot in a more thoughtful manner, I would have rated this movie higher.
