I read Peter Straub's excellent novel Ghost Story shortly after reading Stephen King's Salem's Lot. I was vaguelly disapointed in Tobe Hopper's adaptation of the King novel and totally disapointed in John Irvin's lacklustre adaptation of Straub's truly frightening novel.
Read the novel and skip the adaptation.
