Review of Ghost in the Shell (2017) by William F — 28 Apr 2017
Visually, it recreates the world of the original story to near perfection. But otherwise, the casting is a hit-and-miss and the story feels rushed and tries too hard to fill in as much fan service and exposition as possible in an under 2 hour long film.
It certainly could've been worse, but it also could've been much better. In the end, it feels more like a film meant to entertain you in stylized visuals, as opposed to a well developed story and characters.
Otherwise while rushed and under developed, said story is still entertaining to watch in this retelling (just not as developed as could be). I recommend seeing it just for said visuals, and for those who are curious or are fans of the original film.
But otherwise, it's mediocre at best, and really nothing else. There are other films out there who deliver just as much eye candy, but with much more intriguing plots. And this just ends up delivering just enough to be entertaining, but leaving us to crave for more and better results.
