Review of Ghost in the Shell (2017) by Jess_Hill — 13 Apr 2017
It's a very tall order to bring a beloved anime classic into the live action realm, but this remake is ultimately a success. The visuals are absolutely stunning, with intricately realised interiors and some shot-for-shot recreations from the original that are sublime in fully encapsulating the original aesthetic.
With masterful action sequences, and a storyline which remains close to the original, my initial misgivings were short lived. The pacing drags in the second act, and the script occasionally lacks finesse, but the performances are engaging and Johansson is excellent.
Worth watching purely for the futuristic world, this is a film to see at the cinema. 8.
