Review of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (2004) by Colin T — 20 Aug 2011
As much as I am a huge fan of the GitS universe, this movie tried too hard to be intellectual, which was completely unnecessary. You should be able to communicate such things visually rather than in jarring speeches inserted everywhere they could possibly fit, and simultaneously fit more action in.
The 3D visuals are not impressive, and already look dated. Would've been far better and timeless had it remained 2D, like the first movie. The large interval was not done well either (trying to copy the first film, and failing), and the somewhat repetitive sequence after it was not necessary to get the point it was trying to make across.
Actions sequences were too few and far between too. I was probably impressed by about 3 minutes of this movie. The rest? Huge disappointment.
