Review of Ghost in the Shell (1995) by Juan C — 12 Jan 2011
The inspiration for The Matrix, even beginning with the same green text aesthetics. It is extremely inventive and shows a dystopian view of the future. The central female is an intriguing character and the way she is worked into a metaphysical climax is handled skilfully.
The updating and merging with 3D technology seems a step backwards. The integration is poor and initially I thought it was a different world. The disconnect is so large. Turning the aesthetics into a sepia toned environment also seems unneeded.
