Review of Ghost in the Shell (1995) by Jon-James H — 24 Jul 2012
A must see for anyone looking for the best in hand drawn animation. GITS has a brilliant premise straight out of a Phillip K. Dick novel, which lends itself perfectly to the medium. Watching it now some of the graphics are a little outdated to be set 'some time in the near future', but it's a minor detail in a incredibly rich visual piece.
The plot almost gets forgotten by the time the film reaches its conclusion, but the events that build up to the climax make this easily forgivable. It's easy to see why four years after Dreamworks purchased the rights, the film still languishes in pre-production.
It would take a cinematic great to effectively translate this epic to a live action film. When in doubt give it to Nolan, or me!
