Review of Ghost in the Shell (1995) by Ellory%20 P — 08 May 2018
This film is a masterpiece, it is Masamune Shirow's Magnum Opus.
I first saw it when I was around 18, and must admit while I loved the look and feel I didn't fully understand it, its not easy viewing. I hadnt delved much deeper into Animae than Guyver, devilman and tank police etc so I re-watched it and second time around the subtext started to make sense. its not just an action film but a story around a deep and unsettling question of where the line is drawn between what makes us who we are.
It drew upon some previously imagined ideas but did them in a very original and Japanese way. beautifully drawn and directed, and the soundtrack is phenomenal. and it then paved the way for other films such as the matrix.
