Review of Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) by Alfredo G — 08 Feb 2008
A must see if anyone thought Last King of Scotland was Whitaker's best work...this is an outstanding movie and easily rivaling his portrayal of Idi Amin in LKOS...a tight character-driven and action-driven script and a brillant arcing storyline, esp.
with the Rashomon inspired flashback memories of the principals & how they recall the pivotal moment before Ghost Dog's transformation into the disciplined hitman that he is throughout the film.
..some of the most inventive hit-kill scenes this side of Leon (The Professional) & this film is not without Jarmusch's trademark natural goofiness in his characters, as this is probably the only movie i've ever seen with middle-age Italian wiseguys entirely too familiar with rap music and cartoons.
