Review of Ghajini (2008) by Farooq G — 28 Dec 2008
Rumor, rumors, rumors! there were a lot of them about this movie & when I heard that it was a remake of Memento, I being a great fan of Memento thought to myself ok there goes another great hollywood film for another unfinished autopsy carried out by retarded bollywood janitors, like we have experienced so many times in past. This was the particular reason that half way through the movie I was forcing every fibre of movie connoisseur-ism in myself to hate it.
However, the way this film is made it cannot be a remake, its more of a spiced up and sauteed version of the original so that the indian masses could digest it. Aamir could be a genius bcoz this film has many new and interesting twists that memento dint have plus it has the overblown action bursts delivered in very small sequences and the added bonus of the romantic chemistry without which many ppl wud not have even seen it!
Overall, Ghajini has become a personal favorite not becoz its overwhelmingly fantastic but becoz of the low expectations I had conjured before actually seeing it and then being forced to like it becoz of its acting & direction.
8/10.
