Review of Gettysburg (1993) by Tony A — 22 Jul 2008
A personal favorite. Not perfect but pretty good effort. One of the best soundtracks you will ever here created mostly from a synthesizer. Tom Berenger and Jeff Daniels were the standouts in the movie, even the were not exactly accurate.
If you know a lot about the Civil War you will have to ignore some of the blaring inaccuracies in the film. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it. One of my problems with film was with the extras, they do not look like they have seen a day of fighting in their life.
Also the beards and various mustaches that the actors wear look pretty fake. Lee is also almost depicted as a complete idiot. In the real battle Lee had a very elaborate strategy in mind, but do to bad timing and coordination it just fell apart.
But enough of that, the cinematography is amazing and the battles are shown in their enormity. Definitely one I watch on more than one occasion.
