Review of Gettysburg (1993) by Patrick C — 28 Feb 2009
Absolutely incredible. The movie is very ture to Shaara's "Killer Angels" and true to the battle as well. It portrays well, the tension and importance that the battle held even before it began.
I was pleased that no characters were left out and that each was played and portrayed in such a way as to make each memorable. Tom Berenger and Jeff Daniels were excellent. Pickett, Kilrain, and Armistead were all well acted.
Some of the other roles come out a bit wooden at times but the size of the production makes that understandable. The battle scenes are very good, and not bloody. I use this film in my history classes, as it gives a very good sense of the times, the feelings of the people involved (both large and small), and it is a film that they universally enjoy.
