Review of Gettysburg (1993) by Catie C — 03 Nov 2011
Best movie about the Civil War, hands down. This film gives equal time to both the Union and Confederate forces and their respective reasons for engaging in the conflict. Get past some of the make-up problems in dealing with the facial hair of the times, and concentrate on the excellent performances of all invovled.
Danielson and Berenger are outstanding as Chamberlain and Longstreet and Martin Sheen gives an extremely fine turn as Robert E. Lee, a General who is clearly out of his element as an invader of the north, and much better suited to his defensive tatics as a protecter of the south.
