Review of Getaway (2013) by Dillon L — 30 Dec 2013
Getaway was a depressing movie. Not because it was sad, but because it had a gem of an idea in there.
Ethan Hawke's car has a bunch of cameras inside and outside of it. There was an opportunity to make a found footage car chase movie. Like World's Wildest Police Chases, only feature length, and 18 million times more spectacular (I threw in the film's budget in there LOL I'm so clever).
Unfortunately, they made a lot of mistakes on the way from genesis to silver screen. A few examples....
1)The guy who directed the Dungeons & Dragons movie was the director.
2)It WASN'T a found footage car chase movie.
3)It was edited by someone who didn't know what the meaning of "coherence" was.
4)Selena Gomez.
I felt genuinely sorry for Ethan Hawke, as he was trying his hardest to make this movie work, but even his fairly good performance couldn't save it. :(.
At least Before Midnight also came out this year, so people can reflect on a good movie he was in, rather than this unfortunate waste of time.
