Review of Get Smart (2008) by Russell G — 21 Mar 2012

I only have had a little exposure to the original TV series so I may not be the best judge of whether or not this movie faithfully captured the spirit of the show or not, but I will have to say I think it did and I liked it.

From what I know of Max Smart Steve Carell was perfect for the role! Anne Hathaway and Alan Arkin were also great choices for their roles as well. It successfully parodies spy genre well and is easy to relate to and fresh for a new generation.

It does offer a nice tip the hat to the old show with the car and the classic shoe phone, (which is funnier now more than ever) and other elements. It is a nice balance of comedy and action, Carell and Hathaway have great chemistry, and it is a lot of fun.

I generally do not like recycling and remaking classic movies/TV shows, but this movie proves it can be done effectively.
