Review of Get Real (1998) by Terri H — 15 Oct 2008
Am I the only person who thought this was a bit slow and implausible? Two guys get together because they are the only gay guys in their school, the jock half of the partnership gives the geek half a shoeing just minutes before the geek chooses school prizegiving to come out to the entire world, and yet they part as friends, geek-half getting into his stereotypical best friend's 1967 Corvette on the day she passed her driving test and cruising into the sunset to Aretha Franklyn.
There were some good performances at the start, Silverstone and Gorton put in some beautiful moves with the sketchy dialogue and manage to pull off some excellent and interesting power play.
Some good stuff, but sadly let down by the full-on Hollywood cheese ending.
