Review of Get Out (2017) by Thomas B — 30 Dec 2017
**.
'Get Out' certainly has an interesting premise, and some great performances to go along with it. For the first half it's a genuinely creepy, frightening idea that made for some tense viewing. Some aspects of the plot are quite clever, with little details coming to fruition later on and making a lot more sense. However, about two thirds of the way through, the movie went from interesting to completely bonkers. There's a revelation involving brain surgery that...well, it's a little bit too ridiculous, and made it difficult to take the film seriously from that point on. It's certainly an entertaining twist, but it did rather go against the tone the rest of the movie had set. Some of the dialogue, too, feels a little stilted at times and the pacing is a bit uneven - but it's ultimately that final act that will either make or break your opinion of Jordan Peele's ambitious debut. For me, I'm still not sure.
