Review of Get Out (2017) by Billy S — 09 May 2017
Meh!! After all the rave reviews I was expecting this to be better. The creepy atmosphere works well but sadly this descends into a ridiculous unbelievable and comedic mess. We are supposed to believe that the daughter manages to maintain a fake 5 month relationship just so she can bring the family their next victim?? Why wouldn't she just take him sooner? If the hypnotism only works when the mother taps the spoon etc then once the transplant is done how will she keep him in the sunken place? What is the point of the hypnotism at all? Why are they transplanting into black people? A lot didn't make sense.
It's being touted as clever for its themes of racial tension but really there is no explanation about it. Worth seeing but don't expect a masterpiece.
