Review of Get Out (2017) by Mahendra W — 22 Feb 2018
I believe Get Out should not have been nominated for Best Picture. The movie is glorified for the wrong reasons and creates two false generalizations. Peele creates Caucasian characters who are portrayed as psychopaths wanting to brainwash innocent human beings solely due to color of their skin.
At the same time, Peele displays African Americans as easy to be persuaded and conditioned. These far-fetched generalizations mock these two races in a flawed manner. I commend Peele on his desire to highlight the issue, however I do not agree with the manner in which he did so.
The movie does not make a significant impact, which is what Academy Award winning movies do. The movie should not have been nominated for Best Picture.
