Review of Get On Up (2014) by Gianni F — 28 Jul 2014
Boseman provides an energetic performance that nearly carries the film. Unfortunately, he is featured in a watered down and boring biopic that features some of the most confused narrative direction and editing I've seen in a while.
Too often goes between flashbacks and present moments to the point of where there is no definitive flow or room to entertain, and when the dramatic moments hit they rarely actually HIT. I felt no emotion or sympathy.
James Brown is an undeniable talent, but a biopic of such an iconic feature needs a better director in terms of understanding of narrative and energy.
