Review of Get On Up (2014) by Hans C — 31 Jul 2014
The lead actor was phenomenal. But the film that surrounded him was a big black hole of empty. In the midst of disjointed scenes reminiscent of failed sixties movies that have long since disappeared, a wonderful James Brown song would be sung & performed.
But it was always out of context. I wish these great and powerful songs had been more deeply explored - how & why they were written, I wish they lent emotional meaning in the film, other than just serving to ground a truly disjointed mess of a movie.
