Review of Get On Up (2014) by Jarrod M — 03 Aug 2014
Chadwick Bosemans portrayal of the amazing "Mr.Brown" was the highlight of the film. It was far too vague and lacked depth and relativity to the times in which the movie traveled. It had potential, but if you were not familiar with James Brown before this film, your opinion after the film seems to show an egomaniac that danced and did alot of shows.
Where were the interactions with other musicians and cultural icons besides a presidential handshake and a classic Little Richard performance? The film jumped around a bit too much and the director/editor did not inform us enough about James Brown and allow story flow from a narrative and technical perspective.
C'mon Universal, take the time, spend the money and make films with flair and vigor. Make scenes that make sense.
