Review of Get On Up (2014) by Mauro A — 31 Jan 2015
Get On Up is an amazing biography movie that really gives it its all to the story of James Brown. The Butterworth brothers wrote James Brown as a complex guy, and it really works as they seem to understand of what he's like, and it gives me more trust to whatever they wrote as they also wrote Edge Of Tomorrow.
I can't believe that this movie got snubbed, especially from Chadwick Boseman who is fantastic as James Brown. He's got the voice, the singing, and the moves down, he's just perfect for the role.
The supporting cast are great too, and the plot is good, even though it's nothing new. It also shows that James Brown is a hard man to work with and other stuff, so the movie doesn't idolize him, nor does it bash him.
It can get a bit uninteresting at times but at 138 minutes, it done all it can to show James Brown's life and successes from young to old, and makes it mostly interesting to watch.
