Review of Get On Up (2014) by Missmaji M — 02 Sep 2014
Get On Up makes it hard to sit in your seat! Being James Brown's number 1 fan, I was hoping Chadwick Boseman did the Godfather justice. Chadwick definitely has talent because he pulled this one off, which is hard to do when it comes to acting like JB and making fans believe you.
Nobody has that JB energy. Chadwick had the voice and walk down. I couldn't understand him during the first five minutes, which is typical when Mr. Brown (as he liked to be called) starts to talk.
Makes me say, "What did he say?" I also learned some new info about Mr. Brown's childhood. I knew he had a hard life but didn't know all the details. Mr. Brown is a hero to me. I remember him standing up for the less fortunate when I was a child.
I would have like to have seen a bit more about his activism and the power he had in the community. Mr Brown was more than a singer and that is the piece that was skimmed over in "Get On Up".
Never the less, this is a really good movie. Solid acting.
