Review of Get Low (2010) by Anthony C — 17 Jan 2011
To through a funeral for a man who's not yet dead. What an interesting concept. Get Low is a very well made film with one of the most sensational performances from Robert Duvall who completely embodies the misunderstood hermit with a story to tell.
Whilst most of the performances lack being anything special (at least in comparison to Duvall) everyone still gives a solid effort.
The film is very nicely shot and carries itself extremely well however has one MAJOR flaw. It's all about a lead up to a story that simply doesn't pay off. The screenplay has its audience believing we'll be hearing a truly awful and painful story that would lead a man to live in exile from the world, however in the end, we've heard it before. Perhaps 40 years ago this story would have worked, but today it just didn't feel like enough of a pay off for such a build up.
And it's a real shame too cos Get Low had the potential to be a truly amazing film but simply falls short due to it's end. But the film is worth the admission price for Duvall alone.
4 Stars.
