Good not great character study. Duvall and Cobbs make it look very easy and it may well be for them. Murray is good and plays it straighter than most people will expect. Lucas Black is low-key but very expressive throughout in a way that actually impressed.
The plot largely gets telegraphed throughout and you don't have quite the ache for redemption Duvall has done better in the Apostle and a few other films, but that is setting the bar pretty high. Lovely scenery and excellent score.
