Review of Get Low (2010) by Mark P — 12 Apr 2011
Very mixed feelings about this film. Robert Duvall gives one of the great performances of all time, but to an extent it's cancelled out by Bill Murray, who's just a walking anachronism that spoils nearly every scene he's in.
To help explain why Murray seems an outsider in this Appalachian town of the 1930s, the script has him come from the big city of Chicago. Nonetheless, though his alienness to the setting is geographically reconciled, he is just the personality we know from so many films of the last ten years cast back in time.
