Review of Get Low (2010) by Sam J — 11 Dec 2017
The Aaron-Schneider-directed "Get Low" may benefit mightily from the presence of great performances - most notably those from Robert Duvall and Bill Murray - but casting aside, there are some substantive narrative issues at hand here.
Yes, there's an endearing nature to the subtlety of the story, but after a short while, I soon found myself growing a tad tired and antsy from how sluggish the pacing became. I enjoyed the central mystery dwelling within the heart of the story too, but at a certain point, the anticipation for the eventual reveal kind of built to a point where nothing would have warranted the wait, no matter what the eventual reveal was going to be.
That being said, though, if there's anything in this film that could transmit seamlessly into any filmgoer, it'd be the final act, which is truly a sight to see. But was it too little too late? I'd say no, but with extreme reservation.
