Not just a savage gangster movie but a showcase for British film. Excellent acting coupled with taut direction, almost equalled by the clever choice of Newcastle locations, most of which still remain. Recent remake was a big film but out of shape, this one's a full term classic, now listen ! Best watched with a pint of bitter.
