Review of Get Carter (1971) by Christopher B — 11 Oct 2007
This is so good. It barely has one redeemable character in it. Our lead is an anti-hero - you wouldn't want to mess with him or even have a drink with him. Somehow, Caine makes us identify and like him.
People who say Michael Caine can't act should see this. He is one of the top British screen actors ever. Good supporting cast (perhaps with the exception of Britt Ecklund) and it is really seamy and sleazy.
You can sense the cold and smell the rotten-ness that surrounds Carter. A flawed, Shakespearian anti-hero, seeing Britain nicely into a winter of discontent.
