Review of Get Carter (1971) by Doctor Dan B — 04 Dec 2007
Jack Carter a London gangster travels to Newcastle to find how his brother died, and find who did it. He runs into the local mob who don't like him meddling. Not accepting the police report of suicide Carter does some investigating of his own. The film then drags a little but Caine finally finds out the truth, and goes on a vengeance journey. Not many people in this movie live and it doesn't end with a happy ending at all, which I like.
My problem with the film is that it never picks up its feet and just seems to drag. There are too many characters to follow which makes the story messy. Michael Caine is amazing in this movie, he is one of the best English actors of all time. He plays Carter very well and couldn't imagine anyone else doing a better job. I just wish the film was a little more polished and a little bit better written.
