Review of Get Carter (1971) by Alec B — 11 Dec 2008
Many of the film's characters are introduced so quickly that we hardly remember them when they return, but this is probably one of the darkest and most brutal crime films ever made. Michael Caine's character is barely sympathetic and he does some pretty awful things, but so does everyone else in this movie.
That's not to say we don't see glimpse's of humanity, but Caine's character is so blinded by revenge that it gets completely lost. Considering the man's recent career choices its weird to see him in such a dark and badass role and to see him do it so well.
Sometimes I just miss the 70s . . .
