Review of Get Carter (1971) by Eolapaloe Z — 20 Sep 2010
Somewhere in the second hour it gains necessary emotional momentum that adds depth to Caine's cold, calculated and mannered performance. But it still runs out of steam well before the last shot is fired and this stylized gangster classic ostensibly shows just how many dull, misfired notes it hit along the way.
It's sleazy, gritty and cooly iconic but glib morality and violence amount to little more than a shallow affair through everybody seem to walk without much purpose.
