Review of Gerry (2002) by Shane D — 19 Oct 2009
I am usually a huge fan of Van Sant's work, and I know it to be slow, but equally compelling. For me, this film was simply slow. It needed more of quite a few elements. It needed more dialogue and ultimately more interaction between the two of them.
Visually it was absolutely incredible, but the cinematography suffers from a severe lack of editing. I've never felt so compelled to fast forward through a shot (except anything by Bela Tarr). Bold, but could have been so much better, and quite easily, too.
