Review of Gerald's Game (2017) by Tal G — 08 Apr 2018
Pretty damn unique.
I loved what the movie did with the basic premise. It really lifted the movie up to another level once the mental games played in Jessie's head began.
It was a great introspective character study. Some great storytelling through that mental aspect that was executed so well. Great acting from the cast, they really managed to sell it all.
The lack of music worked well, I noticed it but not in a bad way. The movie felt colourful and stylish. Felt well made.
The scares were just alright, but maybe that's because I'm familiar with the actor they cast in the "monster" role from Twin Peaks too well. He's too iconic for me.
Other than that, the ending was a bit less impactful and satisfying than I expected. It was fine and made sense, but it was a little bit too straight. As if there was no better idea for another better ending.
It was an enjoyable and intriguing experience overall. Challenging at times because of the subject matter that's present throughout.
